TST drag back V
The drag back V and its variations — one of the most useful shapes in tight spaces.
The drag back V is a shape, an escape and a fake all at once. Done well it buys a player a yard in the tightest space on the pitch.
Practise it slowly until the shape is exact, then build speed, then add the fake.
Drag back Vs: set #1
Now playing
01. DBV #1 — switch foot outside V inside
Pull the ball in with the sole, then push it out in a new direction with the other foot. The switch is what makes the V work in a game.
The 3 exercises to master
- 1. Drag back with the right, switch out with the left inside
- 2. Drag back with the left, switch out with the right inside
- 3. Same shape, add a drag back U at the end
Now playing
02. DBV #2 — hop into the drag back shape
Add a hop so the body is moving while the foot works the ball. Players who can hop and interact with the ball at the same time move better in games.
The 3 exercises to master
- 1. Hop on the right: drag back with the left, exit inside
- 2. Hop on the left: drag back with the right, exit inside
- 3. Hop on the right: drag back, exit outside

03. DBV #3 — fake outside switch into an inside pass
The V becomes a fake. Show the outside, take the inside — the defender commits and the ball is already gone.
The 3 exercises to master
- 1. Drag back, show outside, exit inside (left)
- 2. Drag back, show outside, exit inside (right)
- 3. Add a pass out of the exit touch
Now playing

- 2. Drag back, inside switch, outside step (right)
